The Dream Crystal

Introduction

This piece is my first attempt to put together some “real” hypnosis scripts that can stand alone on their own, in addition to supporting a story. If you use them as the text suggests, you might find that they “take you places,” hopefully places that you’ll enjoy :)

I’ve been contemplating making a series of CD’s containing the “lessons” and “journeys” in this tale. Since these would be fairly lengthy—several CD’s in length—I imagine distributing them via snail mail, and charging a reasonable price for them (I do have to pay for all my expensive recording and audio processing equipment, after all!!!) If there’s interest in this project, it will help motivate me; feel free to send me a note and let me know that you’d like a copy if this ever gets off the ground! Of course, I’m also always open to critiques or even to requests for “personalized journeys” :)

Oh yes, please don’t read this if you’re underage or offended by tales of sexuality and submission. And I also appreciate it when folks stick by the copyright notice, which applies to all part of the story and is:

Prologue—A Mysterious Gift

The package was nondescript, wrapped in plain brown paper without return address or other identifying marks. The only clue to its origin was a postmark bearing the name of the same town to which it was addressed. “What can it be? And who’s it from?” Sally wondered. She felt the faintest tinge of suspicion at the sight of the parcel, a suspicion that was far outweighed by curiosity. As Sally would be the first to admit, she simply loved surprises. She paused, hearing a small voice of caution, but only for a moment. Throwing prudence to the wind, she ripped open the mysterious package, quickly revealing its equally mysterious contents.

A wooden box lay on the table—blond, fine-grained, lightly varnished, similar in shape and size to the large cigar boxes Sally encountered from time-to-time in the antique shops that she frequented. The lid was covered with an intricately embossed design, vaguely Celtic, with repeated patterns of spirals, waves, twining vines. In the middle of the panel were the ornately inscribed words, ‘Dream Crystal’. “Dream Crystal, how strange,” she thought. For a moment Sally was captivated by the artistry of the carving, then curiosity got the best of her, and she lifted the hinged lid.

Two compartments were revealed. On the left, nestled in velvet, was a clear multifaceted teardrop. It appeared to be cut from the finest of crystal—catching the sunlight streaming through the window and returning it in rainbow hues. As she lifted it by its thin silver chain and held it up to the light, the jewel turned slowly, flashing sunlight into her eyes. “Ohhhhh, how beautiful.”

After gazing in admiration for several long moments, she returned the glass to its nest and examined the rest of the contents. To the right was a thin brochure. The cover page replicated the design on the lid of the box. As she picked up the pamphlet, she noticed beneath it a set of eight cassette tapes, a small cassette player with a set of collapsible headphones, and a flexible metal stand folded into a recess in the packaging. She opened the booklet. Penned inside the front cover was a note in the same handwriting as the address on the package. “From an admirer. I hope you will enjoy the journey of discovery as you explore with this crystal.” And a single initial in a large, bold script—“L.”

On the opposite page was a replica of the same ornate lettering—“Dream Crystal”—with text below it. Sally began to read.

“The Dream Crystal is a key—a key to places within yourself, a key to new realms of experience, a key to sensual and spiritual dimensions. By learning to journey with the Dream Crystal, you will open yourself to voyages of discovery, deep inner knowledge, and hidden pleasure. Other times, other places, other beings will be revealed as you attune to the crystal, tap its power, become initiated into its mysteries. Join with those who have opened this path, in exploring the world of the Dream Crystal.”

“Hmmmm, interesting,” thought Sally. She had always been drawn to the mystical, and this seemed right up her alley. Thoroughly intrigued, she read on.

“Your Dream Crystal has been carefully selected for resonance with physical and metaphysical energy fields. A series of four taped lessons will help you to tap into these cosmic sources. Each lesson teaches you awareness of a different aspect of using the Dream Crystal, and harnessing its power.

“These lessons are carefully crafted, and form a sequence. The four lessons cover: “Relaxing the Body”, “Focusing”, “Relaxing the Mind”, and “Enhancing Imagination.” To gain maximum benefit from these lessons, they should be experienced in order, and each lesson fully absorbed before moving to the next. We recommend at least four to six practice sessions with each tape before proceeding to the next. As you work with the tapes, you’ll develop an inner awareness that will tell you when it’s time to move on to the next lesson.

“Once the four lessons have been mastered, four scripted journeys with the Dream Crystal will follow. These journeys will take you to distant lands, ancient times, inner realms. Each journey will open you to new sensations and experiences. Please wait until you’ve completed the preparatory lessons before embarking on the journeys—you will not be able to use the Dream Crystal effectively until then, and premature attempts will impede your progress. We encourage you to embark on each journey several times—each will have much to teach you—before proceeding to the next, although no fixed rules apply.

These journeys certainly sounded interesting. Sally found herself wondering what their themes would be. “Some kind of out-of-body experience, I guess. I’ve always wanted to try that.”

As she contemplated the text, Sally began to ponder the identity of the man who had sent this gift. A man—that’s how she was thinking about it. “An admirer,” he had signed. And the letter ‘L’. Who did she know with a name starting with ‘L’? Sally was drawing a blank.

She had received unsolicited gifts from men in the past, and knew it was best not to keep them. It simply wasn’t right to accept expensive gifts from would-be admirers, particularly ones she wasn’t interested in—and besides, it only encouraged them. “But,” she thought, “since I have no idea who it’s from, I won’t be able to return it! At least not until I figure out who sent it. I guess I can enjoy it for a little while, at least.” With that thought, Sally returned to the pamphlet.

“Your taped lessons come with a specially-designed player. At specific points in the lessons, the tape player will pause, giving you a chance to reflect. When you’re ready to proceed, simply press the “play” button, and the tape will continue.

“To learn to use the Dream Crystal effectively, a relaxing environment is important. We suggest a well-cushioned chair, preferably a recliner, with a table nearby on which you can set the Dream Crystal in its stand. For the first lesson, and some of the later lessons, lying down in bed or on a comfortable couch may be preferable. Pick a spot where you can easily relax, and where you’ll be free of distractions.

Each lesson lasts from half-an-hour to forty-five minutes. We recommend reserving an hour for each, an hour free of any interruption.

“You’re probably curious, and ready to get started. Feel free to find your comfortable, distraction-free spot, and enjoy the first lesson as you enter the world of the Dream Crystal.”

Sally leafed through the rest of the small booklet, noting instructions on assembling the stand for the crystal, and some text at the end about additional lessons and journeys being available. “Hmmm. I wonder if this is just a teaser for some expensive set of ‘advanced courses’?” Her skepticism faded as she contemplated the contents of the box. A pretty expensive ‘come-on,’ she realized. “And besides, I don’t have to worry about that now,” she thought. “There are eight tapes here, I should at least see what’s on the first. And this is a perfect time; my roommate’s gone for the evening, and I have nothing planned.”

With a mingled sense of curiosity and anticipation, Sally set the answering machine to “do not disturb,” turned off the stereo, and settled herself in a overstuffed lounge chair. With the headphones comfortably adjusted, she popped the first tape into the player, and started the machine.
